Will the E-Commerce Businesses in Nepal Gradually Boost-up Amid Coronavirus Lockdown?

In Nepal, the total number of coronavirus positive cases has reached 548 and reported 3 deaths, as per Worldometer data. People in Nepal are adhering to lockdown protocols such as social distancing and self-quarantine but the sheer demand in essential items is setting a toll on e-commerce companies.

However, in light of lockdown, people are finding it hard to purchase daily necessary goods, like medicine, water, gas, and groceries. Residents in Nepal are frightened to go out in crowded areas due to the rise in cases. The Government has allowed shops to open at a particular time and began home delivery services for people amid coronavirus, however, initially it was not that successful. 

As indicated by media reports, there are numerous spots where the delivery of essential items was not done on schedule. Mobile Apps, for e.g, Daraz, Foodmandu, SastoDeal, Bhojdeals, and Kirana had to enter in the exercise to support in delivering the daily commodities and fulfill the present needs of the customers during the global pandemic.

Daraz teamed up with BigMart, one of the biggest grocery chains in Nepal, to introduce D-Mart, a virtual market run by Daraz. 

The marketing representative at Daraz expressed that they were working on the procedure to begin the collaboration with Big Mart. But, they urgently needed to accelerate the process due to the pandemic and are happy to serve people during a major crisis. 

Bhojdeals also partnered with KK Super Mart Nepal to help the citizens in availing faster delivery at their doorsteps. Not just these, but other online services such as internet banking and digital wallets also boosted e-commerce businesses by offering various attractive discounts. 

The Government of Nepal ensured citizens that these services will continue with necessary precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Sastodeal, the entirety of their riders has been provided with adequate training, sanitizers, gloves, and masks for delivery. Surely, e-commerce will gain pace in days to come after all the acquired measures.
