The number of patients suffering from head and neck cancer is slowly increasing in the country. According to the data provided by different hospitals, 3,500 to 5,000 people die every year due to head and neck cancer.

Prabhat Chandra Thakur, Head Neck Surgeon at Nepal Cancer Hospital has said that 7000 to 8000 new cases of head and neck cancer come every year, out of which around 80 percent is sent to the referral center at an advanced stage.

Every day, a minimum of 15 new patients visit the OPD at NCHRC. According to Dr. Thakur, Patients visit the hospital with complaints of non-healing ulcer in the mouth, difficulty in swallowing, change in voice and swelling in the neck. He further added that a large number of people in Tarai are found are suffering from these diseases because of the consumption of tobacco.
