Nepali Congress the main opposition party on Friday condemned the ruling Nepal Communist Party for holding the House of Representatives hostage due to the latter’s uncertainty to choose a candidate for the post of speaker.
A meeting of the NC parliamentary party led over by president Sher Bahadur Dueba held at Singha Durbar said that the NCP’s uncertainty over choosing the candidate for the post of speaker has also put severe questions on the ruling party’s commitment to the parliamentary system.
Declaring a press statement, chief whip of the NC parliamentary party BalkrishnaKhad urged to begin the process quickly for electing the lower house speaker.
The party in a press statement stated that “The parliament meeting which is scheduled for coming Monday should begin the process for electing the new speaker,”
The Congress party also emphasized the need to rapidly endorse the US proposed 500 million MCC grant from the parliament.
