Nepal bags a historic victory by 100th SAG gold

Saksham Karki, Taekwondo player acquired the 100th gold medal for Nepal in the records of South Asian Games.

Karki won Pakistan’s Waqar Ali Shah 27-9 in the high 87kg weight division final to obtain his maiden gold medal. The gold was Nepal’s 29th in the continuing 13th edition of the provincial sporting show and 100th overall.

Karki, who won against Bangladesh’s Mohammad Alizanur Rahaman 39-7 in the initial round before seeing off Sri Lankan player Siya Balapitiyage Blesh Dilka Sheron 24-17 in the semi-finals, recorded a slide success over Shah but not before trying in the initial step.

He was 1-3 forward at the individual stage and the players were bound at 7-all midway within the second round before Karki hauled away with a series of strokes and kicks. He began up 19-7 head after the series and scored eight points in the final round allowing just two points.
