Media Council Bill was presented for amendment on Saturday following a thematic review on the bill was passed by the National Assembly.
The bill was postponed by the government on May 10 and supposedly has terms that would diminish the rights of freedom press. In 72 hours, the lawmakers should file their bills on the terms of the bill.
The government has accepted to revise those terms considered to diminish the rights of a free press.
The government granted to make amendments following discussing with the Federation of Nepali Journalists and opposition parties, along with Nepali Congress, before taking the bill forward.
Postponing the bill, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota stated the government would discuss with all stakeholders regarding the terms on forcing penalties or taking action on errant media persons and media houses.
