A man from Kailali has shocked the National Human Rights Commission as he accused the police of committing religious affront against him.
Mansingh Dhami from Chure Rural Municipality-6 has lodged a complaint with the commission saying that the police had violated his religious freedom by cutting his tuppi and janai while he was in the police custody.
Dhami has accused Madhav BK, Phaltude Area Police Office In-charge Inspector of letting his subordinate cut his tuppi and janai on 5th August when he was in custody for disturbing public peace under the influence of alcohol.
He also informed of his plan to file a similar complaint at the District Administration Office.
However, Inspector BK has denied that they had done anything that would cause religious aggression.
The Inspector said that they had asked him to take off the sacred thread. When he refused, they simply removed it. But they gave it back the day he was released. He added that the police had arrested Dhami acting on a complaint against him by his wife.
