Nepal is now home to many technological developments. The recent addition to this list is drones for medical purpose.
Yes! Drones are now being used to take patient’s samples to labs and administer antibiotics in Nepal’s remote regions.
Known as the Drone-Optimized Therapy system, these mini-carriers have executed test flights in Pithuan to collect patient’s samples and provide diagnosis and relief to them in such places.
Patients receive their treatment via smart pills stored in boxes. These pills provide electronic reports on whether or not the patient has taken the antibiotic or otherwise.
The drones also take the samples to hospitals in the Swargadwari municipality and public health center in Piuthan.
The pilot task will use drones to collect samples only from remote villages.
