Chilaw Marians Club defeats Nepal by 89 runs in a match in Colombo

On Friday, Nepal U-19 national cricket team were defeated by Chilaw Marians Club by 89 runs in a match in Colombo.

Following 225-run mark, the touring team fell to 135 runs in 40.3 overs. It was Nepal’s third match with the local Sri Lankan team forward of their ACC U-19 Asia Cup listed for September 5-14 in Colombo.

Nepal on Thursday came in the match with an 84-run win over Baduraliya Cricket Club. They failed to U-23 Sinhalese Sports Club by three wickets in their initial match in Colombo.

Marians scored 224-8 in 50 overs with a combined batting effort. Nepal was bowled out for 135 runs in 40.3 overs.
Mohammad Asif Sheikh top-scored for Nepal including a careful 44 runs.

Sheikh hit four boundaries in his 84-ball knock. Bhim Sharki provided a battling 26 off 55 balls and Rit Gautam got 25 off 45 deliveries. Naveen Gunawardana and Sheshan Silva required three wickets per while Dilshan Sanjeewa took two wickets for the regional team.

First, Marians had five of their batsmen to post a competitive total on the board. Suhaga Wijewarnena top marked with 56 runs, his 90-ball innings combined six hits to the fence.

Dasun Seneviratne (36), Sanoj Darshika (32), Lasith Croospulle (26) and Kavindu Dinesh (25 not out) supported increased the Marians’ whole. Surya Tamang and Pawan Sarraf required two wickets each while Kamal Singh Airee, Rashid Khan and Sagar Dhakal caught one wicket each for Nepal.

Nepal is described in Group ‘B’ on the hosts Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup. The Group ‘A’ covers of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kuwait. Nepal restricted for Asia Cup following winning the ACC U-19 Eastern cricket tournament in Kuala Lumpur in July. Nepal had led the Asia Cup semi-final of the competition in 2017, their best run in the tournament till date.
